        What is an estate plan?

        An estate plan is a process to ensure that your wishes are accomplished in the event you become incapacitated or when you die. An estate plan is also the best method to protect your assets during your life and ensure that the assets are transferred to the people that you care about in the manner of your choice.

        What areas do you serve?

        Estate and asset protection planning and Medicaid planning for clients throughout New York State. Estate administration and probate for people who died residents of Kings, Queens of New York Counties.

        How much is a consultation?

        • Estate planning consultations: If you have attended our virtual estate planning workshop, The Plan, or have seen a previously recorded workshop, the cost of the consultation is $200.00. If you would like an estate planning consultation without attending the workshop, the cost is $350.00.
        • Estate/Trust Administration or Probate consultation:This meeting is design to give an overview of the probate or administration process, next steps and how to access a loved one's assets. The cost of the consultation will be $250.00.
        • Crisis Planning Consultation:This meeting is designed for people who need to apply for Medicaid immediately or within 6 months - one year. The cost of the consultation will be $250.00.
           
          All consultation fees are due at the time of scheduling. If payment is not received within 24 hours, the appointment will be canceled.

        How do I begin estate planning/what is the process?

        Our estate planning process begins with our workshop, The Plan.

        How do I register for a workshop?

        Register on our website or email us at info@barrowlawgroup.com to let us know you would like to attend a workshop and we will send you the link to register.

        When is the next workshop?

        I have attended a workshop. What are the next steps?

        After attending a workshop, the next step in our estate planning process is scheduling a consultation. Please use our scheduling link CLICK HERE TO SCHEDULE THE VISION MEETING to find an appointment that accommodates your schedule.

        Are meetings in person?

        We remain open “virtually” until further notice. Our attorneys and staff are working remotely to continue to meet your needs. We are conducting all meetings via Zoom. We value our clients and are still able to maintain our high quality of service and bring it to you virtually while you remain in the comforts of your home. If you are unable to use Zoom, we are happy to get you started.

        Can my family be involved in the estate planning process?

        We are proponents of family involvement and awareness to the extent that you desire.

        Can I plan without my spouse?

        If the assets you are planning for are jointly held, you are unable to plan without your spouse. If the assets are individually held, you may plan without your spouse.

        When do I retain your services?

        Our services are retained, after the initial consultation, at the second meeting.

        How are legal fees paid?

        Fifty ( 50%) percent of the legal fees are due at the second meeting. The remaining 50% is due prior to the signing of your plan documents.

        Can you review the plan I already have in place?

        Yes, we can review your plan with you in light of your current estate planning goals.

        What areas of law do you cover?

        Estate and Asset Protection Planning, Medicaid planning and Estate and Trust Administration.

        I am familiar with the trust. Do I still need to see a workshop?

        Yes, you may view the workshop at your leisure. We can share a workshop recording with you or you can attend a live Zoom workshop. This Firm offers a genre of trust that the average lay person is not familiar with. Additionally, there are different types of trusts and the workshop, The Plan gives you can overview of that information.

        I'm not ready for a plan. Can I create individual documents?

        Yes. Similar to creating a plan that is tailored to you, we can tailor individual documents to meet your planning needs.

        How much is a trust?

        The cost of a trust for an individual ranges from $3,500.00 to $6,500.00. For couples it ranges from $4,500.00 - $8,500.00.

        How long does it take to create an estate plan?

        An estate plan is created in approximately 5 appointments over the span of 4 to 6 weeks.

        Can I (or how much does it cost to) transfer my property to my children?

        Yes, you can transfer your property to you children. Before you make that decision, we would like you to be aware of the possible risks and ramifications below:
        • losing control of the property
        • exposing your assets to your children's creditors
        • losing property
        We recommend you attend a live workshop or watch a recording for a better understanding. If you would still like to transfer your property after seeing the workshop, we can quote a price after we obtain some preliminary information from you.

        How do I refer a friend?

        Thank you for entrusting us with your loved one. We believe referrals are the highest compliment one can receive. Kindly provide the email address of the person or people you would like to refer and we will reach out to them or you can direct them to our website.

        What are common estate planning mistakes?

        • Thinking that you do not need an estate plan or that planning is only for the wealthy. Everyone needs an estate plan.
        • Creating your own plan
        • Not using an attorney who specializes in estate planning to create your plan.
        • Giving away your assets prematurely.

        What are the next steps after creating an estate plan?

        You should ensure that your estate plan remains effective. The Firm offers a maintenance plan that provides you with updates to the laws that affect your plan, as well as drafts the necessary changes to you plan. Other notable benefits of the maintenance plan is that you receive one (1) annual consultation, invitations to related informational workshops and emails regarding related information.
